How Should I Prepare for the Procedure?

First Visit (Information and Ultrasound)

A gynaecological ultrasound will be performed to assess gestational age, and the different abortion methods will be explained for your specific case.

Abortion Procedure and Timing

It can be carried out on the same day, depending on gestational age, the method chosen by the patient, and the availability of the medical team.

90% of women who choose the surgical method, and are under 14 weeks, usually have the procedure done on the same day.

Personal Checklist Before the Abortion Procedure

Do I need to fast?

It’s essential that you arrive after a strict 6-hour fast (no food or liquids) if you choose any method with anaesthesia (most patients choose sedation).

Can I take my usual medication?

Yes, as a general rule you can take your usual medication (with the smallest possible amount of water if you are fasting).

However, it is ESSENTIAL that you inform us about ALL medications you take and any allergies you know about.

How long should I expect to be at the clinic?

For a standard visit (consultation only): Plan for about 1h – 1h30.

If you choose the same-day procedure: The total time will be longer and can be several hours (between 2 – 4 hours for procedures under 14 weeks, and 4 – 6 hours for procedures from 14 to 22 weeks)
