Abortion in Barcelona for International Patients (Non-EU)
Are you coming from a country outside the European Union? We explain how to end your pregnancy in Barcelona with complete safety and confidentiality.
Is it Legal to Have an Abortion in Spain as a Non-Resident International Patient?
Spanish law applies to all women who are in Spain, regardless of nationality or residency status.
The law sets different time limits depending on the circumstances:
Up to week 14: You can end your pregnancy by personal choice, without needing to state any reason.
Between week 14 and 22: The law also allows abortion during this period for medical reasons, such as a serious risk to your life or health, or serious fetal anomalies.
At our clinic, we operate under the strictest compliance with Spanish law.
We will assess your individual case to offer the safest and most appropriate option, always guaranteeing your right to choose in an accredited, fully trusted setting.

How Much Time Do I Need in Barcelona for the Procedure?
Although we’ll advise you in detail, as a general rule:
Medical Abortion: Requires at least 2 clinic visits. We recommend staying in Barcelona for a minimum of 3-4 days, which is how long the process takes.
Surgical Abortion: It is generally completed in a single visit of a few hours. However, we recommend staying in the city for at least 2-3 days to ensure your well-being before travelling back.
The follow-up visit is done at 7 days and 15 days by the doctor, but it can also be done with your trusted gynaecologist.
At this visit, an ultrasound is performed to confirm the procedure went well and that there are no retained tissue or complications, which is why we recommend having it done at our medical centre.
What language do you provide care in?
Our key staff speak English to ensure you understand the entire process, can ask questions, and feel comfortable and safe.
All relevant medical information and consent forms can be explained in English.
Do you meet the same medical standards as in my country?
Absolutely. Our clinic is accredited by Spanish health authorities and follows World Health Organization (WHO) protocols, which are considered a global gold standard.
We use the same safe techniques and medications (mifepristone/misoprostol, MVA aspiration method) used by leading clinics in Europe and North America.
Do I Need a Special Medical Visa to Travel?
You would travel under the usual tourist entry conditions for your nationality.
We recommend checking the entry requirements for Spain according to your passport before travelling.
